How Are Cultured Marble Countertops Made?

What is Cultured Marble?

Cultured marble is made of a mixture of polyester resin, limestone dust, fillers, and pigments with a clear gel coat finish on top. While you can’t remove deep scratches that go all the way through the gel coat, it is possible to restore the surface and shine using extremely fine sandpaper and polishing compounds.

In fact, dust from real natural marble is used in the manufacturing process of cultured marble, and actually makes up about 75% of the finished product. The dust is combined with liquid polyester resin to create the cultured marble countertops.

Cultured marble has only been around for about 40 years, but has made great progress over the last few decades. Many of the cultured marble countertops that are available are super durable and can last for many years, maintaining their stunning beauty with little maintenance.

How they are made

The process involves Cultured marble countertops, and then add thermoplastic resin and gravel. The prefabricated mold is the size and shape of the custom made to fit perfectly.

The mixture of resin and stone is pressed together with high pressure inside the mold. Then it dries and forms a harder dense material.

The final product has a low porosity, but as you can imagine, it doesn't look exactly the same. Cultural marble may look very beautiful, but it will give up the original integrity of the stone.
