How to Seal Marble Countertops
From an aesthetic and design standpoint, marble countertops are a premium addition to any kitchen or bathroom. However, being a soft, porous stone means that, to keep marble in top condition, routine maintenance is required. In addition to regular cleaning and avoiding acidic or abrasive substances, the best habit is annual or bi-annual sealing.
Sealing helps create a protective barrier over the marble while ensuring the stone's pores are filled with sealer rather than any liquids that may end up on the surface.
Below, we'll break down a few simple steps for sealing your marble countertops. You can either watch the video or follow the written steps. While sealing natural stone countertops such as marble is well within the capabilities of most DIY enthusiasts, if you don't have the time or feel any hesitation about the task, simply hire a professional. In many cases, the company that sold you the stone can also assist in maintaining it.

How to Seal Marble
Before starting the sealing process, a good trick to determine if your old seal has worn off is called the Water Drop Test. Simply sprinkle some water droplets onto the countertop. If they bead up, your seal is still intact. If they soak in, your seal has worn away, and it's time to reseal your marble countertops.
Step 1
Clear your counters of any items. Then take a damp cloth and wipe down the surface to ensure it is free of dust and other debris. For best results, use a marble or granite cleaning solution formulated specifically for natural stone.
Step 2
After allowing your marble countertops to dry, apply the stone sealer. Spray a generous amount across the dry surface, ensuring full coverage. Depending on the size of your kitchen, it may be best to work in sections to avoid missing areas or losing track of where you've applied the sealer.
Step 3
Let the sealer sit for about 15 minutes, keeping an eye on it as it dries. The goal is for the sealer to penetrate the pores without fully drying on the surface, which could cause a hazy residue.
If the sealer soaks in before the 15 minutes are up, apply more and repeat. When finished, wipe off any excess sealer with a dry cloth or paper towel. If the sealer has dried before you could wipe it away, spray on a light coat, wait a few minutes, and then wipe-this will prevent haziness.
Step 4
You're done! However, avoid using the countertops for at least an hour. For best results, leave them untouched for 24 hours to ensure the seal fully sets and no one compromises your work.
